The U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) is poised to approve crypto perpetual futures contracts, according to Commissioner Summer Mersinger. The derivatives products could begin trading "very soon," she said during a Thursday announcement, despite ongoing leadership changes at the regulatory agency.
Perpetual futures, which dominate crypto derivatives markets with higher volumes than spot trading, represent a significant milestone for institutional adoption. The timing coincides with the departure of several CFTC commissioners, potentially weakening the agency’s enforcement capacity during a critical period for digital asset regulation.
